NOM-010-SESH-2012

Household LPG/NG Cooking Appliances are classified as follows:

  • Stove
  • Grill
  • Oven
  • Cooktops
  • Any combination of appliances above

and according to placing in:

  • Floor: an appliance with its own base to be placed on the floor, without specially preparing the surface on which it is to be placed.
  • Embedded: an appliance requiring for installation certain arrangements in order to be fixed to or placed in a facility, according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Top: a device installed or placed on a piece of furniture
  • Portable: an appliance that can be moved for operation. It does not require special facilities.

For each of the family grouping types previously specified, consider the following:

  • Aesthetic and graphic changes, burner identification, as well as color variations, are permitted.
  • No variations in the number of burners are allowed. In addition, you shall meet any and all conditions below:
  • thermal burner capacity shall be the same individually and burners shall be placed in the same position.
  • Thermal oven burner capacity shall be the same among different models.
  • Adding one or more burners (except outdoor grills) is not allowed.
  • Removing one or more burners (except grills) is not allowed.
  • Same electrical characteristics (voltage combinations or ranges not allowed) are permitted:
  • Voltage: 127 V ± 10% o 220 V ± 10% (voltage combinations or ranges not allowed).
  • Frequency: 60 Hz (same frequency).
  • Current: up to 1.5 A.

For current values greater than 1.5 A, appliances grouped in a family shall have the same current value.

  • Grouping into the same family models whose cooking system is totally gas-fired with products having heating elements on the top or in the oven (combined products) is not allowed.
  • For models with heating elements and gas cooking system, the same number of heating elements with same current consumption and same position is allowed.
  • Different brands are allowed, as long as they are manufactured by the same production plant.
  • Variants of external components (backguard, glass lid, oven doors, knobs, handles, legs, levelers, etc.) in terms of shape, design and material are allowed, provided that supplementary testing proving compliance with the standard is conducted.
  • Grouping models with different type of ignition is not allowed.
  • Electrical equipment: models with different electrical accessories (lamp, clock or timer and convection motor, among others) may be classified in the same family, provided that the most complete model is assessed. In addition, rated electrical characteristics shall be specified.
  • Grouping models with different type of oven controller is not allowed.
  • Grouping is only allowed for models manufactured in the same production plant.
  • Grouping into the same family those models whose cooking system is through electromagnetic systems with gas-system models or heating-element models (combined products) is not allowed.
  • In addition, for stoves: same size
  • 8 cm (designation 20)
  • 2 cm (designation 30)
  • Grouping models having the characteristics below is allowed:
  • Grouping into the same family those models with or without a grill is allowed, provided that the same burner is used for both the baking function and the grill function and the model with grill is assessed.
  • Grouping into the same family those models with or without a grill having an additional grill burner in the upper part of the oven cavity is allowed, provided that the oven burner has the same thermal capacity and the model with top grill is assessed.
  • For cooktops:
  • A variation in cooktop sizes is allowed, provided that the same number of burners with the same thermal capacity is retained, burners are in the same position, and the cooktop with the smallest size is assessed.
  • For open grills:
  • Grouping models with different number of burners is allowed, provided that the model with the highest number of burners and accessories is assessed.
  • Grouping models with different type of classification is not allowed.

The most complete or most characteristic family model shall be sent to laboratory testing. If a model has additional characteristics, the model shall also be subject to laboratory testing. To be certified, the number of models belonging to a family is not limited, provided that models meet each of the criteria applicable and listed above.

NOM-015-SESH-2013

Regulators subject to this NOM are classified as follows:

Type 1. One input

Type 2. Two inputs with a change-over device

Type 3. Direct-coupled

Models shall meet each of the family grouping criteria listed below

  • Aesthetic and graphic changes, as well as color variations, are permitted
  • Different models shall be manufactured in the same production plant
  • Different brands are allowed, as long as they are manufactured by the same production plant
  • Variants of external components in terms of shape and design are allowed
  • Same materials used in manufacturing
  • A variation in connector size is allowed, provided that the smallest connector in the output connector is assessed

For initial certification purposes, you should subject the most representative model (s) of the proposed model family to laboratory testing. If a model has additional characteristics, the model shall also be subject to laboratory testing. To be certified, the number of models belonging to a family is not limited, provided that models meet each of the criteria applicable and listed above.
